Directed by Alexandre Aja and written by Aja and Gregory Levasseur, High Tension (or Haute Tension in French) follows two women on a visit to a family farmhouse in the country. When a psychotic, silent murderer begins killing everyone, seemingly at random, it sets off an insane chase that lasts for most of the movie. It takes a set up that’s so cliché it should be boring and manages to make it not only interesting, but exciting as hell. It’s relentless and fascinating, sexually disturbed, wonderfully acted and just a shit-ton of fun. Highly recommended.
